Nordlund & Associates, Inc. is a Michigan Corporation that was founded in 1972. Since the beginning, our firm has grown from 3 to 20 individuals with two locations. Our clients include industrial, commercial, and governmental as well as individuals. Our focus has always been to provide our clients with quality service based on their operational and economical needs.

Holly Mulherin Nordlund and AssociatesHolly A. Mulherin, P.E.

President of Nordlund & Associates, Inc.  Holly has 15 years of experience in the design and construction of geotechnical engineering projects. She is experienced and knowledgeable of AASHTO, MDOT, the MMUTCD, Field Manager and MTM Standards, procedures and methods.

Mrs. Mulherin received a Bachelor of Science Degree at Michigan Technological University in 1994. She became a registered civil engineer in the State of Michigan in 1998 (Registration Number 45003).
Prior to joining Nordlund & Associates, Inc. in the fall of 2001, she was employed by Ayres, Lewis, Norris & May, Inc. of Ann Arbor, Michigan as a project engineer.


James T Nordlund Jr.  Nordlund and AssociatesJames T. Nordlund, Jr., P.E.

Vice President of Nordlund and Associates, Inc.  Jim has over 20 years of experience in soils exploration and foundation design, embankment excavation stability, ground improvements, grouting, mechanically stabilized earth walls and slopes. He is experienced and knowledgeable of AASHTO, MDOT, Field Manager and MTM standards, procedures and methods.

Mr. Nordlund received a Bachelor of Science Degree at Michigan Technological University in 1985. He became a registered civil engineer in the State of Michigan in 1990 (Registration Number 36116).

Prior to joining our firm in 1988, he was employed as a staff engineer by Midwestern Consulting, Inc. of Ann Arbor, Michigan and the United States Corps of Engineers.


Jim Nordlund Senior Nordlund and AssociatesJames T. Nordlund, Sr., P.E., P.S.

On the Board of Directors for Nordlund and Associates, Inc.  Jim has over 40 years of professional experience in the geotechnical engineering field. His career emphasis has been in design, construction inspection, construction staking, construction materials testing, quantity surveys and calculation of construction quantities. He also has expert level familiarity with AASHTO, MDOT, MMUTCD, Field Manager and MTM standards, specifications and procedures.

Mr. Nordlund received a Bachelor of Science Degree at Michigan Technological University in 1962. He became a registered civil engineer in the State of California in 1965 (Registration Number 16137); a registered professional engineer in the State of Michigan in 1967 (Registration Number 16345); and a registered land surveyor in the State of Michigan in 1972 (Registration Number 16345).

His professional background also includes five years of experience with George E. Snyder Associates of Jackson, Michigan and five years of experience with the California Department of Water Resources.


Harold J. Brower Nordlund and AssociatesHarold J. Brower. Senior Technician

Harold J. Brower, Senior Technician, has worked in the engineering field as a driller and construction materials testing technician for the past 21 years. He is experienced and knowledgeable in drilling techniques, soils classifications, soils testing and analysis as utilized in the transportation and construction industry, as well as MDOT testing procedures.


James Dillingham. Senior Technician

Senior Technician, has extensive experience in the laboratory and field-testing of soils, concrete, asphalt and aggregate. He has worked in the testing field continuously for 33 years and has a complete and total knowledge of testing and materials utilized in the transportation and construction industry. He is experienced with MDOT testing procedures and Field Manager software.


Victoria L. Heidelberg, E.I.T.

Project Engineer, received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Architectural Engineering at the Milwaukee School of Engineering in 1997. She has been a design engineer and construction administrator for numerous local agency and critical bridge projects throughout her employment with Nordlund and Associates, and is experienced with AASHTO, AREA, Field Manager Software, MMUTCD, MTM and MDOT standards, specifications and procedures.


Noah Penn, Surveyor

Noah Penn, Surveyor, is the most recent addition to the professional staff of Nordlund and Associates. Mr. Penn graduated with a Bachelor of Science, Geological Science – 2001 – Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI and a Bachelor of Science, Surveying Engineering – 2007 – Ferris State University, Big Rapids, MI.  He has ABET/NCEES Accreditation in both Land Surveying and Civil Engineering S.I.T. - 2007

Mr. Penn is an experienced and accomplished party chief.  He has 14 years experience in all types of surveys including property, engineering topographic surveys for roads, bridges and construction staking.

Prior to joining Nordlund and Associates, he was employed by Kebs Surveying in Haslett, Michigan, and completed a co-op placement with the MDOT/Michigan Department of Transportation Design department.


Josh Kane Nordlund and AssociatesJosh Kane

Josh Kane has worked for Nordlund and Associates for 8 year as a construction materials technician and surveyor.  He has provided testing services on several privately funded projects and is familiar with testing aggregate and sand densities, gradations, and performing field and laboratory concrete tests.  He was recently promoted to survey crew chief.  His surveying experience has included property, topographical and construction staking.


Drew Clark

Drew Clark has worked for Nordlund and Associates, Inc. as a surveyor since 2006.  His surveying experience has included property and topographical surveys, and construction staking.

Mr. Clark was a Field Operations Assistant with B.F Thompson, P.C. Engineering and Surveying in Howell, Michigan for 10 years before joining our firm.
